Increase your Sales with Retail Signage

Build a lasting first impression that sells.

It’s estimated that around half of all in-store purchases are made spontaneously, and many of these are based on the information available to shoppers at the time of purchase. Attractive in-store signage can dress up an otherwise overlooked location as well as promote your products or services and increase your brand recognition.

The window signage for It’s About Time Urgent Care in Helena transforms their otherwise plain storefront and increases awareness of their services. Pedestrians easily notice the bold colors from a vantage where the building sign isn’t visible, making their business easy to find and attractive.

The Bud’s Best Cookies sign at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Complex alerts event attendees to the availability of product in a situation where purchases are often decided before customers get to the concession stand.

The Unique Challenges of Artwork Photography

Getting the best image for your portfolio.

Photographing artwork presents a unique set of challenges. With online galleries and social media becoming major sources for artists to promote and sell their work, getting a good quality image is more important than ever.

Special attention must be paid to lighting in order to show contrast and texture, while avoiding excess bounce-back which can wash out colors or result in hot spots. On many pieces, the large size can make getting even light levels a challenge. Sometimes getting the best lighting can be a trial-and-error process. Generally, two equally spaced diffused light sources produce the best images.

Perspective is also important in photographing artwork. To avoid distortion, the camera must be centered directly on the piece. Some minor distortion can be corrected in post processing, but every effort should be made to get the image perfectly square.

Communicating Change – How to Keep Your Customers Informed

5 tips for effective business change communication.

If anything is constant in the world of business, it’s change. Employees come and go. Businesses grow, consolidate, or refocus. Keeping your customers or clients informed of changes in your business is vitally important to your continued success. These tips will help you make the transition as smooth as possible.

Communicating Change

Know the reasons.

Having a clear goal in mind is important whatever the reason for the change in your organization. Know what you want to accomplish by implementing a change, and include your goals in all communication.

Have a communication strategy from the beginning.

Too often, communication strategy comes after the backlash is in full force. Having someone qualified to understand how people will respond to change is essential for a seamless transition.

Share information with employees as soon as possible.

Fear and insecurity can be heightened in times of change. Once the rumor mills start turning, a lot of time and effort can be wasted on getting your organization back to a place of order and productivity.

Don’t confuse process with communication.

Planning meetings can be used as communication vehicles when designed mindfully and used as part of a broader strategy, but they aren’t adequate to meet communication needs by themselves.

Use a variety of vehicles.

Don’t make the mistake of using a single method of communication such as email or a website. Repetition and redundancy are helpful in getting your point across.

Whether you are opening a new location, adding staff, or changing your focus, kpstudios can help you make the change as seamless as possible. Contact us to help with all of your communication needs.

Skyline of Birmingham AL from RailRoad Park

I am so in love with this image! A client contacted me and wanted me to help them create some cool artwork for their new office. This is one of my most favorite things to do. They gave me a list of all the “Birmingham” iconic places and I went out and photographed them so we could create some cool artwork. We printed this 60×40 onto different panels of metal and mounted them all together to make a giant collage. This will serve as the conversation piece as you come in the door.

I have posted the image and then a picture of the artwork once it was produced. Pretty cool, huh?

Graphic Design Explained

What is graphic design?
The American Institute of Graphic Arts, better known as AIGA explains it best.

Suppose you want to announce or sell something, persuade someone to , or explain a complicated system or demonstrate a process. In other words, you have a message you want to communicate. How do you “send” it? You could tell people one by one over a radio or a loudspeaker. That’s verbal communication. But if you use any visual medium at all-if you make a poster; type a letter; create a business logo, a magazine ad, or an album cover; even make a computer printout-you are using a form of visual communication called graphic design.

Graphic designers work with drawn, painted, photographed, or computer-generated images (pictures), but they also design the letterforms that make up various typefaces found in movie credits and TV ads; in books, magazines, and menus; and even on computer screens. Designers create, choose, and organize these elements-typography, images, and the so-called “white space” around them-to communicate a message. Graphic design is a part of your daily life. From humble things like gum wrappers to huge things like billboards to the T-shirt you’re wearing, graphic design informs, persuades, organizes, stimulates, locates, identifies, attracts attention and provides pleasure.

Graphic design is a creative process that combines art and technology to communicate ideas. The designer works with a variety of communication tools in order to convey a message from a client to a particular audience. The main tools are image and typography. see more
